International Applicants
Students who wish to apply for admission to the Graduate School of Medicine/Faculty of Medicine/Institute for Genetic Medicine must first submit the following documents to be considered by their prospective supervisors. If you wish to be considered for admission, please apply as follows.
Deadline for submission
For April Enrollment
- If you live outside of Japan and wish to be a research student at Institute for Genetic Medicine or Faculty of Medicine, the deadline for submitting documents is September 30 of the year preceding the one in which you would like to enroll.
- If you wish to apply for the August entrance examination for the master’s program in medical science or the doctoral (PhD) program in medicine, the deadline for submitting documents is April 30 of the year preceding the one in which you would like to enroll.
- If you wish to apply for the January entrance examination for the master’s program in medical science or the doctoral (PhD) program in medicine, the deadline for submitting documents is August 31 of the year preceding the one in which you would like to enroll.
For October Enrollment
- If you live outside of Japan and wish to be a research student at Institute for Genetic Medicine or Faculty of Medicine, the deadline for submitting documents is March 31 of the year preceding the one in which you would like to enroll.
- If you wish to apply for the August entrance examination for the master’s program in medical science or the doctoral (PhD) program in medicine, the deadline for submitting documents is April 30 of the year you intend to enroll.
- If you wish to apply for the special selection process for international applicants to the master’s program in medical science or the doctoral (PhD) program in medicine, the deadline for submitting documents is March 31 of the year you intend to enroll.

to attend. Please fill it out and complete all sections without any omissions.
Please note that you will not be considered for admission by the department of
your choice if any documents are incomplete or missing.

- ① Please fill out all the required fields in [1] Basic Information and [2]
Educational Background & Employment History (attached file).
- ② Please paste a copy (scanned data) of your certificate of (expected)
graduation or completion into the designated space on the form marked [3]
Certificate of (Expected) Graduation or Completion.
- ③ Please submit any of the following tests as proof of English or Japanese
language proficiency, if available: TOEFL iBT, TOEIC, IELTS, CAE/CPE
(Cambridge English), PTE, or the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).
- ④ Please sign and write the day/month/year at the designated places on [5]
Signature Page, to affirm and attest that all information you have submitted
is correct and complete.
- ⑤ Please convert documents [1]-[6], along with proof of financial support
(if you are a self-supported applicant) into one PDF file.
- ⑥ Please send the completed PDF file to

In case you apply for consideration for admission
through the Pre-admission Support System
Please register an account on the dedicated page of the Pre-admission Support System before you submit your application.
In addition to your research plan, certificate of (expected) graduation, and academic transcripts, you must also upload a copy of a document that serves as proof of your ability to cover the expenses (*), such as a bank balance certificate or a copy of your acceptance letter to receive a scholarship in your home country. Please check the explanation on the dedicated page carefully and prepare the necessary documents in advance before submitting your application.
(*) The following expenses are required for studying in Japan. The attached
certificate should indicate that you are able to pay for the following expenses.
(Estimated tuition + living expenses)
- Research student for six months: 1 million yen
- Research student for one year: 1.9 million yen
- Master’s student for two years: 4 million yen
- Doctoral student for four years: 8 million yen
