The design of the symbol was inspired by the trillium flower, which has symbolized the time-honored Hokkaido University. The symbol represents the high aspirations of researchers and students who study and train in medical science and healthcare at the Faculty of Medicine and Graduate School of Medicine/School of Medicine, as well as their commitment to their missions.
The stamens and pistil in the middle of the symbol symbolize how their abundant talents will flourish as years go by. Viewed as symbolizing the five elements of creation, the pentagrams, arranged over the flower, represent the Faculty of Medicine and Graduate School of Medicine/School of Medicine as a beacon of light illuminating the path ahead for alumni and people across the world.
