Research

My aim is to develop solutions to the problems of the clinical field by using the knowledge and technology of Science and Engineering. The web, programing and database technique are used for contribution to the clinical field and research. In addition, we are responsible for training the medical physicist who is able to offer the contribution to the society.
I conduct the research about the quality of treatment planning with students of our laboratory. Recent X-ray treatment technique, such as Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) or Volumatic Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) is sophisticated technique. By controlling the treatment device complexly, it enables to deliver the high radiation dose to the target and reduce the dose to the normal tissue. However, planning such complicated dose distribution treatment plan, the planning process becomes complicated as well and planning time and quality of the plan depend on the planner’s knowledge and experiences. Also, optimization of dose distribution depends on the patient’s anatomy and these makes evaluation of plan quality difficult. As a result, in the case of complex site where target is located near the organ at risk, it is considered that the plan quality depends largely on planners. We will try to provide the making decisions for individual treatment planning and making the system less dependency of treatment planner.
