A day for Saori Ishigaki (Doctoral Program)

After changing into a lab coat, I read through medical records in the anteroom of the endoscopic procedure room. I do my clinical rounds after learning about the medical conditions of the patients.

All the members of the endoscopy group gather to exchange views about the onscreen images. They share information and discuss medical care policies.

I perform endoscopic examinations of outpatients. I’m more confident than when I was a clinician, because I know my endoscopic skills have really improved.

I have lunch after outpatient examinations. During lunch, I talk with some staff to make arrangements for endoscopic examinations, but I can refresh myself, listening to the peaceful music playing in the room.

I look through a microscope at diagnostic slides prepared by the pathology lab techs. Pathological findings of tissues on the slides are compared with the relevant endoscopic photos to clarify diagnoses.

I have a lot of desk work to get through, but I always try to find time to study pathology.

Today, I’ve also spent time researching the digestive tract and preparing a presentation for an academic conference. After working as a clinician, I decided to study at graduate school because I felt the need to upgrade my skills. I work hard every day at becoming a specialist in endoscopy.
